Most families start their journey with a devastating diagnosis, with little or no time to prepare before they leave everything behind and travel miles from home to start their child’s treatment. During this terrifying time, a parent’s focus is on their child, without a thought for themselves and
not wanting to leave their side in case they miss an important update or health professional treating their child. Providing care packs to help alleviate an element of worry is just a small way we can help families. Care packs can consist of either snacks, toiletries, or activities for much
needed family time together.
Families often arrive at our House with just the items of clothing they are wearing. Providing essential toiletries to help families settle. Recommended items for a toiletry pack:
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Deodorant
Shampoo
Conditioner
Soap/body wash
Facewipes
Razor and small shaving foam
Snack Packs
Snack packs provide families with healthy snacks, drink, and fruit to grab on their way to the
hospital to snack on throughout the day. Recommended items to make a snack pack:
Paper bag decorated brightly with an empowering message. Packet of crisps/savoury snack/rice cakes
Cereal bar/ protein bar
Porridge pot
Sweet fruit based treat
Carton of fruit juice
Childrens activity packs
Time in hospital can be really difficult as a child being treated in hospital or as a sibling. Children’s activity packs can help provide much needed family time together either in our Houses or at a childs bedside. Recommended items include:
‘Uno’ or similar family focused card game
Puzzle book/ colouring book
Colouring pencils
Fidget toy
